Ideal Media has compiled a list of eight SUVs that you should avoid like the plague. First up, we have the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain, which are essentially the same vehicle with a history of issues. These SUVs are powered by a 1.5L turbo engine that's about as smooth as a bucket of rusty nails. Fuel efficiency is lackluster, and reliability is questionable. The interiors are underwhelming, and the only redeeming feature is their stiff chassis, which unfortunately translates to a bone-jarring ride. Save your money for a good dentist instead.

Next on the chopping block is the Fiat 500x, a failed attempt to blend Italian flair with SUV practicality. With a price tag over 30 grand, it offers limited space and lackluster features. The build quality is subpar, and reliability is a major concern. It's essentially just a Jeep Renegade in Italian drag, and that's not a good thing. The 1.3L 4-cylinder engine is a letdown, lacking refinement and reliability. There are far better options available at or below the same price point.

Now, let's talk about the Jeep Wagoneer, a vehicle that screams luxury and size but whispers inefficiency. With a price tag of over $70,000, or even over $100,000 for the grand Wagoneer, these gas guzzlers fall behind in the era of fuel economy. And let's not forget about Jeep's reputation for terrible reliability. Reports of electronic and build quality complaints are already pouring in for this brand new vehicle. While the Wagoneer may hold a special place in people's hearts, there are definitely better SUVs out there that won't break the bank or leave you stranded by the side of the road.

Moving on to the Mercedes GLE, a symbol of luxury that comes with a hefty price tag, not just for buying but also for maintenance. The base model, priced at $60,000, falls short in terms of ride quality and maintenance costs. Reports rank the post-warranty costs among the worst in the European luxury market. If you're willing to splurge on the higher trim levels or opt for the GLE 63s, then you might find some satisfaction. However, in a market where you can get more bang for your buck with other luxury SUVs, the GLE struggles to justify its high cost of ownership.

We mustn't forget the Toyota 4Runner, a vehicle that Toyota seems to think doesn't need any updates. The 4.0L V6 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission are relics from the early 2000s. The interior design hasn't changed much either. Sure, they added a new paint color for the TRD Pro version, but is that really worth over 50 grand? With the 4Runner likely going out of production soon, it's hard to justify paying top dollar for a base model that's stuck in the past. Save your money and look for a better deal on a used TRD spec rig.

Now, let's talk about the Land Rover Range Rover, a classic symbol of status and luxury. But let's be honest, buying a brand new Range Rover is hard to justify. The brand has a reputation for reliability issues, and the maintenance costs are sky-high. By the time you've spent a fortune on repairs, there will already be a newer, more efficient, and faster Range Rover on the market. And let's not forget about the steep depreciation curve. With over 100 grand to spend on a high-end SUV, you'd be better off looking at alternatives like the BMW X5M or the Porsche Macan GTS.

Surprisingly, the Jeep Compass makes the list again. Priced at around 40 grand, this SUV used to be in the low 20s, but now you're paying more for leather seats and a turbocharged engine. The Compass has lost its way, trying to be more luxurious and sacrificing its off-road prowess and character. The poor handling and sketchy nature of this vehicle have earned it a spot on the list. Jeep needs to go back to its roots and focus on what made them great in the first place.

Last but not least, we have the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, a vehicle that further proves why we shouldn't care about Mitsubishi anymore. With low safety ratings, uninspired interior, and lack of fuel economy benefits, it simply can't compete with similarly priced SUVs. And if you do decide to buy one, good luck finding a dealership for service and support. Mitsubishi's lack of presence in the United States is a major drawback. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a better SUV option.
