Adam LZ, had acquired a crashed A90 Supra with the audacious goal of transforming it into a daily drifter to rival the mighty F80 M3 of his friend, Duarte. But alas, the Supra came with an automatic transmission, a plague upon the drifting world. Fear not, for a savior emerged from the land of Poland, going by the name of HTG, armed with a product known as the GCU.
The GCU, my friends, is a marvel of automotive ingenuity. It allowed Adam to splice it into the Supra's factory transmission controller, granting him the power to control the transmission and utilize a clutch. With this newfound control, Adam could confidently execute handbrake turns and clutch kicks to initiate those glorious drifts. The stock 8HP50 transmission, while a fine piece of engineering, proved to be the weak link in this automotive equation. It valiantly served its purpose, but in the end, it succumbed to the pressures of drifting.
Now, one might think that the logical course of action would be to replace the fallen 8HP50 with its brethren, but Bartek from HTG presented Adam with a tantalizing array of options. Oh, the choices! He could opt for the beefier 8HP70, a transmission that exudes strength and resilience. Or, he could venture into the realm of true dual-clutch DCT gearboxes, a path paved with crisp shifts and robust performance. And let us not forget the allure of the manual transmission, a purist's dream. But in the end, Adam succumbed to the siren call of the DCT transmission, for it promised a more surefire way to spend his hard-earned money.
With the decision made, Adam acquired a DCT transmission from the esteemed craftsmen at Seems Legit. They worked their magic, modifying the transmission to be controlled by the GCU. And so, the A90 Supra became the first of its kind, a true DCT Supra, devoid of the torque converter and blessed with the presence of two clutches. The automotive gods surely smiled upon this creation.
But the journey was far from over. With the newly acquired DCT transmission in place, it was time for the GCU to learn its ways. Bartek, armed with a computer and a sense of adventure, took the Supra for a spin. The GCU, like a diligent student, observed and absorbed the nuances of the transmission. It learned how to take up, how to engage the clutches with precision, smoothness, and speed. It calibrated the solenoids and valves, ensuring that every component worked in perfect harmony.
