In the realm of hot hatchbacks, the Audi S3 has stepped up its game with a new Dynamic Plus mode and a torque splitter differential, making it a corner-carving beast. With a bump in power to 333 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, this turbocharged 4-cylinder machine means business. The performance tests reveal a 0-60 time of 4.48 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 12.93 seconds, showcasing its speed and agility. But is it truly worth the price tag starting just under £475,000, or is a used model a better deal?
The exterior design tweaks, including a sporty rear bumper, quad tailpipes, and larger alloy wheels, give the S3 a more aggressive look. Inside, the Alcantara dash, S sport seats, and updated gear selector add a touch of luxury and sportiness. The S3 also boasts uprated sports brakes, progressive steering, and a lowered suspension for a more dynamic driving experience. However, not all is perfect, as rear visibility issues and reduced boot space due to the rear differential and sports exhaust are noted.
Despite its improvements, the Audi S3 faces tough competition from the likes of Mercedes and BMW. While the driving experience is engaging and fun, the price point may steer some buyers towards alternatives like the BMW m340i, offering a larger body and a 6-cylinder engine for a similar cost. Ultimately, the decision between the Audi S3 and its rivals boils down to personal preference and priorities in performance, luxury, and value for money.
