BMW M135 Review: Power, Style, Worth It?

The BMW M135, the sporty variant of the one series, promises more power, style, and that coveted "M-ness." With a higher price tag, the question arises - is it worth the extra dough? Visually, the M135 stands out with unique design cues like the distinctive grill, M badging, and those quad tailpipes that scream performance. Inside, it's all about the sporty vibes with features like the M Sport steering wheel and seats, exuding a sense of speed even when stationary.
Under the hood, the 2L turbocharged engine churns out an impressive 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0-60 in a brisk 4.6 seconds. While boot space is decent, it falls short compared to rivals like the Honda Civic Type R. The M135 may lack some bells and whistles of its predecessor, such as adaptive dampers and a user-friendly driving mode selector, but it compensates with a mechanical limited-slip differential and an upgraded chassis for a sportier driving experience.
However, when it comes to the driving experience, the M135 seems to miss the mark. It feels disconnected and lacks the exhilaration one would expect from a hot hatch. Unlike its competitors like the VW Golf R, the M135 fails to deliver that visceral connection between man and machine that enthusiasts crave. While it may excel in speed and style, the BMW M135 falls short in providing the pure driving pleasure that sets a hot hatch apart. Ultimately, the M135 caters more to those seeking a fast, stylish BMW rather than a truly engaging driving experience.
