Saabkyle04 is back with another episode of his Fiero chassis rebuild, and this time he's tackling the rear suspension. Now, if you're not familiar with these cars, let me enlighten you. The Fiero was originally designed as an economy car, which meant that the development team had to get creative with the components. For instance, the rear suspension in these cars is actually from a front-wheel drive Chevrolet Citation. It's a McPherson strut setup with tie rods, but they're mounted to fixed parts of the rear cross member, so they can't steer like they could in a Citation. It's a fascinating example of engineering ingenuity.
But enough about the technical details, let's get to the fun stuff. Saabkyle04 is not just replacing worn-out parts, he's also giving everything a fresh coat of paint. He's using Dupli-Color products, including self-etching primer, automotive sealer, and engine enamel in semi-gloss black. Now, I know what you're thinking, why use engine enamel on suspension parts? Well, it's all about durability, my friends. This paint can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees and is resistant to chipping, brake dust, and automotive chemicals. Saabkyle04 is all about making sure his work stands the test of time.
With the rear suspension components replaced and refreshed, it's time to put everything back together. Saabkyle04 is like a kid in a candy store, excited to see the transformation. And boy, does it deliver. The car feels tighter, more precise, and the steering is spot on. The handling is vastly improved, and Saabkyle04 can't help but be impressed. Of course, there are still a few quirks to sort out, like the non-functioning tachometer, but he's confident that he'll figure it out. With the mechanical work almost complete, Saabkyle04 is ready to move on to finishing the interior and starting the bodywork and paint. It's all coming together, and I can't wait to see the final result.
