In his latest review, Doug DeMuro takes on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, a car that's been a staple in the luxury segment for decades. Known for its understated elegance, the new E-Class boasts updated technology, improved comfort, and a fresh design. The lineup includes the E350 with a 255-horsepower 4-cylinder engine and the more powerful E450 with a 375-horsepower 6-cylinder engine. Mercedes-Benz promises additional models like the E450 All-Terrain and the highly anticipated E63 AMG with a turbocharged hybrid six-cylinder engine rumored to deliver a whopping 700 horsepower.
While the exterior changes are subtle, with integrated logos and pop-out door handles, the interior undergoes a significant transformation. The highlight is the Hyperscreen, a massive display that spans the dashboard and includes a passenger screen for added convenience. Doug praises the infotainment system for its responsiveness and user-friendly interface, even comparing it favorably to Tesla's setup. The Hyperscreen also introduces innovative features like integrated climate vents and fun games, adding a touch of excitement to the E-Class experience.
Despite the technological advancements, some drawbacks are noted, such as the challenge of accessing climate controls through the screen and the replacement of physical volume controls with a touch slider. However, the configurable gauge cluster screen and 3D mode offer a unique and customizable driving experience. In the back seat, passengers can enjoy ample space and basic amenities like climate vents and storage compartments. The cargo area provides practicality with a decent amount of space and additional storage options, making the new E-Class a well-rounded luxury offering in the market.
